We are all experiencing a new normal, and it is not by any means normal.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one more responsive to change.” — Charles Darwin

This quote is a powerful reminder for everyone today. We are living and experiencing unprecedented changes at work, home, and life. We went from working at home to living at work. We are a globally mobile, culturally agile, diverse, hybrid, multi-faceted, multi-generational, multi-dimensional, and heavily nuanced world.

From VUCA to VUCA-H

I recall researching the leadership styles ideal for the VUCA world (volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous) in 2016 as it began to grow in popularity in academia before going mainstream. But, sadly, the VUCA world did not wait for us to adapt to it before challenging us with a new component: hyper- connectivity.

So, what does that mean?

Honestly, no one knows, but we are figuring it out, and I am confident that everything we learned with utmost certainty is not relatively as concise as before. As we know it, Leadership is changed forever, as our de-facto styles of leading and managing are insufficient.

Adapt or die!
